The raised median plan for Prima Vista Boulevard goes to county commissioners in February 2027, after the Oct. 15 public meeting. What changes, and how to comment.

Updated Oct. 17: the second public meeting took place Oct. 15. The county has not yet posted the revised design. Its project page now puts a presentation to the Board of County Commissioners in February 2027 and final design documents in March 2027. Both dates are marked “subject to change.” Details are below.

St. Lucie County showed a revised plan for Prima Vista Boulevard at a public meeting Oct. 15. The project would remove the shared center left-turn lane between Airoso Boulevard and U.S. 1 and replace it with a raised median.

The meeting was held at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center. The county’s Public Works Department ran it. The City of Port St. Lucie shared the announcement on the county’s behalf on Oct. 7.

What the county is proposing

The announcement describes these changes on the stretch from Airoso Boulevard to U.S. 1:

  • the shared center left-turn lane would be removed
  • a raised median would take its place
  • openings in the median would allow “safer controlled turning movements”
  • new landscaping and design features would make the road feel narrower, to slow drivers down

The county says the aim is to make the road safer by cutting the number of places where vehicles and pedestrians cross paths.

What happens next

The county’s project page sets out this schedule:

Step When
90% design documents September 2026
Second public meeting October 2026 (held Oct. 15)
Presentation to the Board of County Commissioners February 2027
100% design documents March 2027

The county says the schedule is subject to change. The page does not give a construction start date.

The county says the median would:

  • reduce crashes by up to 22%
  • cut driver delays by up to 30%
  • add 25% to the road’s capacity

The plan also brings flashing yellow left-turn arrows and signal backplates with reflective borders, which make signals easier to see at night and in bad weather.

Changed since April

This is the second information session. At the first, on April 9, people “voiced concerns over the changes and expressed opposition to some of the project details,” the announcement says. The project team has since updated the design based on that feedback and showed the changes Oct. 15.

Neither the announcement nor the county’s project page says what was changed or what the work would cost.

What it means for you

  • If you drive Prima Vista Boulevard, left turns across traffic would be possible only at the median openings.
  • You can still comment. The county takes thoughts and questions by email to the project’s community outreach team, listed on its project page.
  • The decision point is February 2027, when the plan is due before the Board of County Commissioners.
  • Other road projects across the city are listed in our road construction and closures guide.
