Electricity in Port St. Lucie comes from Florida Power & Light (FPL). The city does not run the power grid, so outages are reported to FPL, not to City Hall. FPL’s outage line answers any time.

Report an outage
FPL gives three ways to report:
- Phone: 1-800-468-8243, any time.
- Online: the outage page on FPL.com, where you can also check the status of an outage at your address.
- App: the FPL mobile app. Text “App” to MyFPL (69375) for a download link, or get it from the App Store or Google Play.
Check the outage map
FPLmaps.com is FPL’s power outage tracker; the city’s hurricane quick guide lists it alongside the outage phone line. Check it before and after calling to see whether FPL already knows about an outage in your area.
Downed power lines
- Stay away from downed power lines, as the city’s flood page warns, and keep children and pets back.
- Call FPL at 1-800-468-8243, or 911 if anyone is in danger.
- Never drive through floodwater with lines down nearby. The city’s flood page warns that electrocution is the second-leading cause of flood deaths, after drowning.
Water, sewer and gas outages
FPL handles power only. For other outages:
| Problem | Who | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| Water or sewer outage, main break | Port St. Lucie Utility Systems (24/7) | 772-873-6400 |
| Natural gas leak or smell | Florida City Gas | 800-993-7546 |
Hurricanes and long outages
FPL keeps storm updates and restoration news on its storm page. Before a storm:
- Charge phones and power banks, and keep a battery or hand-crank radio.
- Keep at least a week of water, 1 gallon per person per day, as the city recommends.
- Portable generators of 10,000 running watts or less are free of Florida sales tax.
- Run generators outdoors only. The city’s hurricane page links an FPL generator safety video, and its quick guide warns against using grills or stoves indoors.

Staying informed when the power is out
With no TV or Wi-Fi, the city’s quick guide lists 24-hour local radio for emergency news: WQCS 88.9 FM, WPSL 1590 AM, WJNX 1330 AM and La Gigante in Spanish. Sign up ahead of time for Alert St. Lucie, the county’s alert program, which sends warnings by text, phone and email; the sign-up page is linked from the city’s hurricane page. Wireless Emergency Alerts reach phones without any sign-up.
Storm debris and power lines
After a storm, the city’s storm waste rules ask residents to stack yard waste and bulk debris away from trees and power lines, because collection trucks cannot pick up piles underneath them. Keep debris off the lines’ path and call FPL about any limb resting on a wire.
