Port St. Lucie picks up garbage, recycling and yard waste once a week, all on the same day, and bulk waste once a month on that same day. Your day depends on your address. The city’s contracted hauler is FCC Environmental Services, and every question goes through the city’s 1PSL service line.

Who to call

  • 1PSL (missed pickup, carts, extra bulk or yard waste): 772-871-1775, press 5, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Find your day: the city’s collection map
  • St. Lucie County landfill (self-haul, hazardous waste): 772-462-1768
  • Stormwater pollution hotline: 772-344-4319

Your pickup day

The city does not split collection into a printed zone list. Type your address into the collection map and it shows your one weekly day and your monthly bulk date. The city also posts a 2026 bulk waste calendar (PDF).

The cart rules:

  • Carts go to the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 7 a.m. on pickup day.
  • Bring carts back in the same day, after service.
  • Keep carts and bulk piles 3 feet from mailboxes, poles, trees, hydrants and each other.
  • Handle toward the house, lid opening toward the street.
  • Garbage must be bagged and fit in the black cart with the lid closed.

Recycling: the green cart

Recycling goes loose, never bagged, in the green cart, on the same day as garbage. Items must be empty, clean and dry. The city accepts:

  • Paper, junk mail, newspapers and magazines (not shredded, waxed or soiled paper)
  • Aluminum and steel cans
  • Flattened cardboard (not greasy pizza boxes or cartons that held liquid)
  • Rinsed plastic bottles, tubs, jugs and jars
  • Rinsed glass bottles and jars

Plastic grocery bags and foam egg cartons go back to the store. St. Lucie County runs an item search tool for anything you are unsure about.

Yard waste

Yard waste goes out on your weekly day. The limits:

  • Limbs and logs no more than 6 inches across and 4 feet long (palm fronds excepted), and no piece over 50 pounds.
  • Loose grass, leaves and pine needles in cans or paper bags under 50 pounds. No plastic bags.
  • No more than 4 cubic yards a week. Bigger piles are tagged and left.
  • Keep yard waste separate from garbage, soil, sod and stones.

Extra yard waste pickups cost $18.50 per cubic yard; book through 1PSL.

Bulk waste: once a month

Bulk pickup takes furniture, mattresses, appliances, exercise equipment and broken-down swing sets, up to 2 cubic yards a month. Not accepted at the curb: contractor debris, concrete, tires, engines, auto and boat parts, propane tanks, oil paint and hazardous waste.

Extra bulk pickups are $18.50 per cubic yard through 1PSL. The city’s Cameo Boulevard drop-off center closed Jan. 5, 2026, so the self-haul option is now the county’s Solid Waste, Baling and Recycling Facility, 6120 Glades Cut-Off Road, Fort Pierce. Bring ID; the minimum fee is $10 for up to 250 pounds.

Holidays

Only Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas change collection. Every pickup that week moves forward one day, with no Sunday service. The ones still to come in 2026:

Holiday What changes
Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26 Thursday pickup moves to Friday, Nov. 27; Friday moves to Saturday, Nov. 28
Christmas, Friday, Dec. 25 Friday pickup moves to Saturday, Dec. 26

The city posts a 2026 holiday calendar (PDF).

Paint, chemicals and electronics

Hazardous waste and electronics are free to drop off at the county facility on Glades Cut-Off Road. Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful also runs two free drive-up collection days a year at the Public Works Complex, 450 SW Thornhill Drive. The fall 2026 date is Saturday, Oct. 10, 8 a.m. to noon; the spring date was March 7.

What it costs

You pay for collection once a year as a solid waste assessment on your property tax bill. The city lists the current assessment at $467.33 a year, up $20.89. An extra garbage cart is $75 a year and an extra recycling cart $65 a year.

Twice-a-week pickup on the ballot

The Nov. 3 ballot carries a non-binding straw poll asking city residents whether they would prefer garbage pickup twice a week instead of once, for an additional fee. It does not change service by itself.

What this means for you

  • Bulk is monthly, 2 cubic yards; extra is $18.50 a yard.
